Alexander Povzner was born in Moscow in 1976. He was literally born into art with both his parents being artists. He spent a great deal of his childhood in the studio of his mother, Valeria Dobrokhotova, where he used to draw a lot. There, he also began flirting with sculpture. He studied at the Surikov Art Institute in Moscow, sculpture department (1999). During this time, he fell in love with cast. For the following ten years he worked independently, with minimal communication with the art world, until he enrolled in the Institute of Contemporary Art. He stopped making sculptures, falling in love with ready-mades instead. Gradually, he returned to sculpture, and progressively, year after year, has affirmed himself as one of the most representative artists of his generation. Lives and works in Moscow.
