Aidan Salakhova was born in Moscow in 1964. She is an alumna of Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov, member of the Russian Academy of Arts. Her paintings and drawings are distinguished by a black-and-gold palette, attention to the ornament and silhouette, and precision of lines. Aidan Salakhova is one of the first artists in the post-Soviet space who started to work with the topics of gender roles and the status of women. She participated in the Venice Biennale (1990, 2011) and numerous other projects in Russia and abroad, including a solo exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London, the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, the Quadro Fine Art Gallery in Dubai.
